On May 3rd, 2018, we had the honour of partnering with The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) at Silicon Valley Forum where we hosted over 20 executives, start-ups and government representatives from India. FICCI is one of the largest and oldest business organizations in India and they were excited to see the best that Silicon Valley had to offer. The goal of this program was to provide an education on Silicon Valley resources, train business leaders to understand Silicon Valley culture and gain perspective on best practices for approaching Silicon Valley VCs for investment opportunities.
As the delegation arrived at the SVG Innovation Center in downtown San Jose, they were welcomed by our CEO, Denyse Cardozo. This was followed by Mr. John Stanton, General Partner at SVG Ventures, who spent time mentoring the delegation about the Silicon Valley investor mindset and how to pitch to VCs. The startups then pitched to Vinod Joseph, Senior Director at Samsung Research America and Aaron McDaniel, a lecturer at Berkeley-Haas, both of whom have worked with hundreds of startups and entrepreneurs on their business models, marketing strategy, operations, and growth.
Following the pitch session, the delegation then had lunch with Rashmi Gopinath, Partner at Microsoft Ventures. She leads Microsoft’s India investment strategy and was excited to teach FICCI about Microsoft’s investment thesis and interest in the AI and Fintech verticals. Manju Bansal, VP at SAP, ended the day with an informative talk on SAP’s innovation model and how new startups can utilize SAP’s current platforms and offerings followed by a Q&A session.
