Anna Counselman is co-founder at Upstart (NASDAQ: UPST), a leading AI lending platform that partners with banks to improve access to affordable credit. Upstart is ranked as the best performing IPO that was backed by either VC or private equity in the last 12 months according to Barron’s (link), ahead of Palatir, Snowflake, and Airbnb. Anna leads Upstart’s people and operations teams where she drives the customer experience and culture-strategy alignment. She helped scale Upstart from zero to more than 1,000 employees. Upstart helps millions of consumers who don’t have access to credit, pay too much for it, or take on credit they can’t ultimately afford. More than $13 billion in loans have been originated on the Upstart platform by its bank partners. Upstart went public in December of last year and currently has a market cap of more than $20 billion.
Previously, Anna led Gmail Consumer Operations at Google as the business grew from 150 million to 450 million users. She also held a variety of operations roles at McMaster Carr and several other startups. Anna received a White House Champion of Change award and was recognized as one of Silicon Valley Business Journal’s 40 under 40. Anna graduated Summa Cum Laude from Boston University with a BA in Finance and Entrepreneurship. She lives in Belmont, CA with her husband, two kids, 12 chickens, 2 bunnies and 2000 bees.
